Finalize

The build is completed and final inventory reductions are made at the finalize stage when the raw material parts are converted to finished assemblies. Aligni keeps a full record of the build including cost information of the specific inventory units applied to the assembly.

After final assembly has occurred, the build may be finalized. At this stage, all reserved inventory units are consumed and final adjustments are made to inventory. A quantity of the finished good may optionally be added to inventory as a resulting transaction. A permanent record of the inventory consumption is maintained for record-keeping purposes.

Build completion is final and may not be undone.

Finished Goods Cost

Aligni computes the cost basis for each part produced by a build by summing the total material costs with the total non-material costs, then dividing by the quantity produced.

Material Parts

The cost for material parts is not entered during the build process. Instead, it is automatically determined by the cost of inventory units that are reserved during the reserve step. These costs carry over to the finished goods cost.

Non-Material Parts

Non-Material parts such as labor, test processes, or other non-inventoried items can be part of a bill of materials, as well. These items can contribute to the overall cost of production, but are not accounted for in inventory. To accurately reflect their cost in the production of finished goods, they are accounted for during the commit stage.

Here, you can enter a price paid for such items or you can select from quotes already in your database using the Price Helper. The cost of these items is extended and included in the total build cost.

Recorded Cost

Aligni records the final cost of the build as a single number in the site currency. You can select to record this as the estimated cost of the build part (the number stored as a part parameter) or the total of the non-material and material costs on the build. You can also choose to enter the cost manually.

Inventory Status

Inventory counts for the consumed items are updated during the build commit process. These changes are made according to the quantities entered at the reservation stage.

Once the build is committed, references to the build on the part inventory summaries are removed and just the updated part counts remain.

Finished Goods Inventory

If selected, the assembly part is added to inventory with the corresponding cost as selected. Recent completed builds are displayed in the inventory summary on the part details page for the assembly part.

Creating Equipment

A finalized build may optionally be used to create equipment which may then be managed using Aligni’s configuration management features. Note that the build quantity must be one (1) in order to have the option to create equipment.

To create equipment during build finalization, check the “Create equipment” option when finalizing the build. You will have the option to specify the name of the “as-built” configuration. The inventory unit that is created will be linked to the new equipment.

If you do not create an equipment during build finalization, you can create the equipment later by clicking on “Create equipment from this build” in the build details of the finalized build.

Build Review

After completion, a permanent record of the consumption remains for review. The dates on which the build was created, allocated, reserved, and committed are stored as well as the quantity and the total build cost for each unit.

Part Usage History

Completed builds maintain a persistent record of inventory consumption for the individual parts on the build bill of materials.  These records serve as historical part usage information that can be viewed on the part details page in the Part Usage box. Historical, in-progress, and future usage is charted on the Supply Chain tab.
