SI Prefixes

Numerical values associated with parts are often specified with metric prefixes to their units such as "milli-"meters, "kilo-"bytes, "nano-"farads and so on. To better facilitate search capability and other numerical processing, you can use these prefix abbreviations when entering some numerical values.

Aligni supports SI Prefixes for value entry. When you enter a value for a part, two items are stored along with the part:

  1. Value – This is a floating point representation of the value. This storage is helpful for performing searches based on value and tolerance. (i.e. find all parts within 10% of value 4.7k)
  2. Value Text – This is the actual text that is entered. This helps resolve the ambiguity between what a human likes to see and what the floating point value is. For example, “10n” and “0.01 u” are equivalent values for the same capacitor, but some people prefer to see it represented as the latter rather than the former. Aligni stores text the way you enter it for this reason.
